DESIGN

Text

Please follow the format of the abstract form for title, names of authors, and affiliations.  You will not need to include the abstract itself on the poster because it will be printed in the program book.  Present the results of your research in a concise and self-explanatory manner.  Limit the scope of your presentation to the most important aspects of the study and the most significant findings.  Include an introductory statement describing the rationale for and methodology of the study and a concluding statement summarizing the implications of the results.
Use a highly legible type in a large font size.  Helvetica or Arial type in 18 to 24 point size and one and a half line spacing is ideal for reading at the typical viewing distance.  Use bold or colored type sparingly for headings or emphasis.

Layout and Construction

The maximum poster size is 42 inches high by 90 inches wide (107 cm high by 229 cm wide).  If you use poster board or card stock, you may want to hinge units together with strapping tape on the back or carry in separate sections.  If your poster is done as a large-scale computer printout, you will want to roll it for transport.  Avoid intense background colors that distract from the content.  Arrange information units in vertical columns rather than horizontal rows, which makes it easier for viewers to follow.  Number the sections if the sequence is not obvious.

Illustrations

Well-designed charts and graphs will communicate your data results more effectively than a lot of text.  Judicious use of color can emphasize important points.  Remember that illustration labels must be as legible as other text.  Glossy prints tend to reflect light; use matte finish photographs if possible.  Keep figure legends concise.
