SNPRC maintains and distributes a broad range of biological material, including but not limited to, blood (fresh and frozen), tissues (fresh and frozen), and extracted DNA. Samples are also available from baboons (Papio sp), macaques (Macaca mullata) and marmosets (Callithrix jacchus).

TERMS: Our technical staff collects, preserves, stores, and prepares the biological material for shipment. These materials are available to qualified investigators through the Biomaterials Distribution Program. The recipient pays the shipping charges and a portion of the costs associated with collecting and processing the tissues. After a request is formally made by submitting the form, the recipient will be advised of the estimated cost before filling the order and a PO must be sent before receiving the tissue. For biological material requests originating outside the United States, the recipient must obtain a CITES import/export permit. The government agencies involved may need several months to process the paperwork.

Biosafety: SNPRC recommends that recipients of materials adhere to the CDC Guidelines in the 5th Edition or most recent of the Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories. Nonhuman primate cells, blood, and tissues should be considered potentially hazardous. Primate blood and tissue should be handled using BSL-2 practices and containment. It is recommended that all work be performed in a biological safety cabinet.

Reporting: NIH measures the effectiveness of the National Primate Research Centers in part by tracking the publications arising from use of the resource. Recipient therefore agrees to acknowledge SNPRC in publications arising from the use of samples obtained from the Biomaterials Distribution Program. Suggested wording: “This project used biological materials funded by the National Center for Research Resources {p51 RR013986} and is currently supported by the Office of Research Infrastructure Programs/OD P51 OD011133.”

In response to your request for the Biomaterials, SNPRC asks the recipient scientist to agree to the following:

• The above MATERIAL is the property of the PROVIDER and is made available as a service to the research community.
• THIS MATERIAL IS NOT FOR USE IN HUMAN SUBJECTS.
• The MATERIAL will NOT be further distributed to others without the PROVIDER’s written consent. The RECIPIENT shall refer any request for the MATERIAL to the PROVIDER. To the extent supplies are available, the PROVIDER or the PROVIDER SCIENTIST agree to make the MATERIAL available, under a separate Simple Letter Agreement to other scientists for teaching or not-for-profit research purposes only.
• The RECIPIENT agrees to acknowledge the source of the MATERIAL in any publications reporting use of it.
• Any MATERIAL delivered pursuant to this Agreement is understood to be experimental in nature and may have hazardous properties. THE PROVIDER MAKES NO REPRESENTATIONS AND EXTENDS NO WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. THERE ARE NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR THAT THE USE OF THE MATERIAL WILL NOT INFRINGE ANY PATENT, COPYRIGHT, TRADEMARK, OR OTHER PROPRIETARY RIGHTS. Unless prohibited by law, Recipient assumes all liability for claims for damages against it by third parties which may arise from the use, storage or disposal of the Material except that, to the extent permitted by law, the Provider shall be liable to the Recipient when the damage is caused by the gross negligence or willful misconduct of the Provider.
• The RECIPIENT agrees to use the MATERIAL in compliance with all applicable statutes and regulations.
• The MATERIAL is provided with fees to reimburse the PROVIDER for its preparation and distribution costs.
